Member of the British royal family and Princess of Wales1961–1997 10 quotes

Diana, Princess of Wales, born Diana Spencer, was the first wife of Charles, then Prince of Wales, and the mother of Princes William and Harry. Their wedding at St Paul's Cathedral in 1981 made her Princess of Wales, and the public took to her at once.

She became an international icon, admired for her style and for an unusually personal approach to charity work. She campaigned for acceptance of people with AIDS and for the removal of landmines around the world, and spoke for people affected by cancer and mental illness. The marriage broke down, and the couple divorced in 1996. She died after a car crash in Paris in August 1997, and her death brought an outpouring of public mourning.
