Spanish painter and sculptor1881–1973 10 quotes

Pablo Picasso was a Spanish painter and sculptor who spent most of his adult life in France and is one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. He is known for co-founding the Cubist movement, inventing constructed sculpture, co-inventing collage, and exploring a wide variety of styles.

He began formal training under his father, José Ruiz y Blasco, at the age of seven and painted in a naturalistic manner through his childhood. After 1906 the work of Henri Matisse pushed him toward more radical styles, beginning a rivalry in which critics often paired the two as the leaders of modern art. Among his most famous works are Les Demoiselles d'Avignon and the anti-war painting Guernica. His career spanned more than 76 years, until his death in 1973.
